Can You Overdose on Vitamin C?

One of the most common questions I receive on this site is Can you Overdose on Vitamin C?

This is a valid question, and one that is not that easy to answer, but the best response is

'Not Easily'.

Vitamin C is water soluble, which means that if you take too much, most of it will simply be passed through your system in your urine.

Despite this high levels of vitamin C, continually overdosing, can cause a few nasty side effects, including diarrhea and even mouth ulcers.

Can a Vitamin C Overdose be Fatal?

While you can overdose on Vitamin C it would be immensely hard to fatally overdose on vitamin C, and definitely could not be done by accident.  You would have to ingest vast amounts of the vitamin, and death would most likely be caused by the side effects rather than a direct issue from the overdose.

Current medical texts say that it is not possible to fatally overdose from Vitamin C, but you should not try it.

Three Simple Ways to Increase Your Vitamin C Intake

We all know Vitamin C is an important part of any diet, but when you think back to what you have eaten over the last few days, did you ever once consider whether you should focus more on Vitamin C?

For the most part it really is very easy to increase your Vitamin C intake.  Most fruits have this particular ascorbic acid, and plenty of vegetables do too.

Nevertheless, even with the wide range of fruits and vegetables available in stores around the world, it is easy enough to let your Vitamin C intake drop dramatically.

Don't worry though, today we have three simple ways to increase your Vitamin C intake!

Eat some Oranges

Sounds ludicrously simple doesn't it?

Oranges are a brilliant way to increase your vitamin C intake, and they taste great!  If you don't manage to eat an orange a day, at least two or three a week can help improve your Vitamin C levels.

Take Suppliments

If it is hard for you to get fresh fruit every day, don't despair.  There are plenty of Vitamin C supplements on the market, many of which also contain complementary vitamins and minerals to ensure you absorb the Vitamin C effectively.

Have a Drink!

Before you get excited, no, alcoholic beverages son't supply vitamins. But! Most towns and cities have juice bars that will mix up some delicious juices and smoothies which not only taste great, but also contain a vast amount of healthy things that your body needs.  Nearly any good juice concoction will be dripping with Vitamin C
